A native of Thurso, Quebec, Lafleur made his debut as a musician on September 20, 1951. Since receiving his first hockey stick for Christmas at the tender age of five, he has dedicated his life to the sport.

A record of 64 points was set at the Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament three years in a row in 1962, 1963, and 1964. The Quebec Remparts won the Memorial Cup in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in 1971 thanks to Lafleur’s 130 regular-season goals.

When he was younger, Lafleur had a crush on players like Bobby Orr and Jean Béliveau. When he played for the Remparts, he was dubbed “Le Turbo de Thurso” by a Radio Canada broadcaster, Jean-Bernard Rainville.

Canadians won four straight Stanley Cups from 1976 to 1979, and Lafleur was awarded tournament MVP in 1977. During the 1978 Stanley Cup playoffs, Boston Bruins head coach Don Cherry instructed his players to smack Lafleur in the face with their sticks whenever they came into touch with him.

Bruin players repeatedly stabbed Lafleur in the skull, which was bandaged at the end of the series. Following Montreal’s Stanley Cup victory, he drove back to Thurso and proudly displayed it on his front lawn for all to see.

Over the course of 17 seasons, Lafleur scored 560 goals and added 793 assists for 1,126 total points. On April 22, 2022, he died. Many people were brought to tears by the demise of such a beloved figure in ice hockey.
