Amber Heard is 36 years old. It is following her well-publicized defamation battle with ex-husband Johnny Depp. Johnny Depp was 59 years old. In the end, Johnny Depp prevailed in his defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard, his ex-wife.
On the other hand, the insurance company that paid for Amber Heard’s whole defence is suing her. It is because they do not want to pay for Johnny Depp‘s winnings.
Amber claimed to have experienced domestic abuse. In response to Heard’s 2018 op-ed, Depp sued Heard, for $50 million. The jury on June 1 gave Depp $10 million in compensatory damages. Also $5 million in punitive damages after a six-week trial. Due to Virginia law’s cap on punitive damages, the judge reduced the damages to $350,000.
The jury awarded Amber Heard $2 million after finding that Adam Waldman. Adam is Depp’s former lawyer. He had made defamatory remarks about the Aquaman actor. The Wrestler actor Rourke was asked by host Piers Morgan about the trial and its verdict during an interview.
Rourke, who had lambasted Tom Cruise earlier in the interview, replied, “He has known Johnny for many years, but he does not really know him intimately. All he could say is, he was in a circumstance once when he got blamed for something he didn’t do. For several years, it prevented him from getting movie employment. And it damaged his reputation. The truth eventually came out. But it did so after he lost his job and his movie.”
He felt awful for the person who was attempting to be cut down by a gold digger. Morgan questioned “Do you believe that was who she was?” for which Rourke replied as “Absolutely”. It also prompts Rourke to correct himself after dropping an expletive.
The former lovers made numerous complaints against one another in court. It includes claims of domestic violence. Depp and Heard have both firmly refuted the accusations. It is after formally divorcing in 2017.
In court filings, the legal team defending Heard recently petitioned to declare the trial a mistrial. It claims that the initial summoned juror had failed to show up and had been substituted by another. Heard requested a new trial on July 11, 2022. Also, Depp’s attorneys responded by releasing a 36-page letter calling Heard’s request outlandish.
The court should reject Ms. Heard’s post-trial motions. It is since they verge on the frivolous. The defense team for Depp responded to Heard’s claim that the damages were excessive. He says this while Heard throws an exceptional amount of mud at the wall in the hope that something might stick.
The evidence and testimony in this case supported the jury’s finding of damages. It was entirely reasonable. According to a public statement made by Heard’s attorney, Elaine Bredehoft, Heard is unable to pay Depp the full amount she owes him.
